An Ultimate Guide: How to Make Waffle Fries
Waffle fries are extremely popular as snacks among people of all age groups, especially the kids. You get to eat waffle fries in fast-food joints
and even restaurants where fries are served with sauce and cream. Moreover, waffle fry lovers spend a lot annually buying waffle fries
packets from popular brands to have them at home.
However, we all know that eating packaged waffle fries or from fast-food joints is not healthy. This is because of the low-grade ingredients
and chemicals used to amplify the taste and lifespan. That is why if you have waffle fry lovers at home, you should start preparing them at
home without much effort. Especially, you should consider buying a waffle maker if you don’t have one at home.
Ingredients
1. Large-size potatoes.
2. A crinkle cutter or any ridge-blade cutter.
3. A pot for frying waffles.
4. Frying oil as per your preference.
5. A food thermometer for checking oil temperature.
6. Storage pan to keep the fries.
7. Sauce or dip of your choice.
8. Black salt, black pepper, garlic powder for seasoning.
Points To Pay Attention
1. Make sure the potatoes are large enough for waffles.
2. Make sure the cutter slices the potatoes thick enough for waffles. Else there will be waffle chip than fry.
3. You can use any oil but make sure it is healthy like olive oil.
4. Instead of a pot and stove, if you have a deep fryer, you can use that too.
Process Of Making Waffle Fries
Step 1 – Peel Or Not To Peel
Clean the potatoes. You can peel off the potatoes with a peeler if you do not like to have the peel. However, waffle fries can be in the best
shape with the peel staying intact.
Step 2 – Slice Them Thick and Big Enough
Start slicing the potato downwards from one end with the crinkle cutter. You can reject the first few slices if they are small in size.
Similarly, you can reject the last few slices of the other end of the potato if they are small. The bigger pieces will be when you slice the middle
of the potato. Continue the process for all the potatoes you have.
Step 3 – Time To Fry
It is very important that you fry the sliced potatoes at a perfect temperature to get the desired result. Therefore, fill the pot with frying oil up
to quarter or half depending on how many slices you have.
Make it sit on the stove and wait for the temperature of the oil to reach 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Then you should dump the slices and be
careful not to cause the oil to splash out.
You should wait for the slices to become golden brown. It should not take more than a few minutes. Then remove them from the frying oil.
Make sure you do not over-fry them or burn them. Therefore, continuous monitoring is necessary.
Step 4 – Seasoning As Per Your Choice
Keep the fries on a storage pan with oil-absorbing paper and let them cool down. Cooling down will make them crispy.
In the meantime, you can season them with salt, pepper, or anything else you want and prefer. Seasoning clearly enhances the overall taste.
You should serve the waffle fries to your kids and family members with a dip like tomato sauce, cream, or mayonnaise as per their
preference.
Conclusion
Making waffle fries at home is very easy. The first few times, you may not get the perfect waffle fries that you buy from stores or fast-food
joints. But eventually, your waffle fries will definitely be as good as them. It is a perfect snack to serve to your kids in the evening as a
replacement for regular popcorns.
