How to Use a Manual Tire Changer
Changing tires is a regular thing for a mechanic. However, for a regular vehicle owner, it can be frightening at the beginning. But if you know the entire process perfectly, you can do it like a pro. When you use a manual tire changer, you have to change the tires with your bare hands. However, you will have to follow the necessary instructions so that the changing activity is efficient. Here are the steps to follow to change a tire with a manual tire changer.
The Materials Required
Always make sure that you are ready with all the necessary materials. Tire changers require a stopping pin, pipe nut, lever bar, and winged washer. You will also require materials for a tire swap. These include tire and rim, rag, spray bottle, ratchet strap, air compressor, and valve core removal tool.
Deflating the Tire
We begin with deflating the tire. For this, you will have to break the bead first. By using a valve core removal tool, you can deflate the tire. Always press the tool to prevent the valve core launch due to pressure. Now you can attach the lever bar to the lever-action arm piping. The next step will be to release the pressure by applying downward pressure. Now turn the tire to make sure that it does not stay in the bead. Repeat the steps until you achieve them.
Using the Rim
Take the rim and keep it facing up. By using a stopper pin, you can keep it in the five-lug nut hole. Again take the winged washer and keep it on top of the rim. With a lever bar of 3 feet, you can now start to tighten the nut down.
Removing the Tire
You will now have to start removing the tire. For this, you must always have the closest side of the tire while lifting to the far end of the tire. You need to place the tooth lever bar between the tire and rim. Keep in mind that you need to place the center of the tire changer as the pivot point. Now you can lift the tire from side so that it stays in the center of the rim. Repeat the process until the tire is free.
Attaching the Tire
The next step will be to attach the tire to the rim. This is one of the most important steps so that you can secure the tire. Always clean the inside of the tire and see if there are any obstructions. By using the soap spray bottle, you can always clean on the outside again. You will have to press down the rim so that you can get the sidewall of the first tire. Take the lever bar again and start using it in small sections.
The Final Step
The final step will be to air up the tire. You will have to remove the tire and rim from the tire changers and place the ratchet strap. Always give pressure until it is snug against the rim. Now you will have to replace the valve core and fill the tire with air. Complete the filling process and check if there are any air bubbles. If it comes with any leaks, then you can replace the valve core.
