How to Make Your Own Sleep Mask?
Many people find it difficult to sleep when there is even a slight brightness in the room. For them, the right solution is using a sleep mask. You can easily get one available in the market. However, why do you spend money when you can make it easy at home. Here we will let you know how to make your own sleep mask.
The Materials
The first task will be to gather all the important materials. What you will be needing is cotton flannel, fabric, scissors, sewing supplies, elastic, bias tape, ruler, pencil, seam gauge, and cotton batting. You may also be requiring a pattern.
Making the Pattern
We can begin by first printing the eye mask pattern. When you go to the internet will find many different patterns. Select the appropriate pattern and then get a printout. Once you have done it, you will have to now use paper scissors and then cut the pattern for the mask.
The Cutting Process
Always make sure that you will have to use two different layers of fabric. When you use dark-colored fabric, then it helps to shade brightness. You need to keep the fabric and the pattern together and then start to cut. You can follow it by the batting. Always select something that offers better comfort.
Basting the Elastic
In the next step, you will have to pin the elastic. Do it appropriately in place and keep it on the right side of the fabric. Once you are done, you will have to repeat it for the other side. Now you can start sewing the elastic to improve its stability. This also helps to prevent movement and make sure that It stays in place.
Pinning of the Layers
Before we begin to pin the layers, you will have to first mark the center curve. Do it on the pattern which you are going to locate about the nose. However, ensure that there is accurate sewing. For this, you can use a pencil and draw the stitching line. We now begin to pin the layers for hiding the backing. You can proceed from the right side and then go to the bottom. Keep in mind to place the elastic far from the stitching line. The next thing will be to put the layers together and you can do it by leaving an opening of 2 inches on the top of the nose bridge.
The Seam Allowance Part
You will now have to trim the allowance from the right side. Follow it by smoothing the curves to open up the seams. Now you can tuck the allowance for better comfort and support. Do it from the left-right of the mask and fold the seam allowance. Always make a smooth line.
The Final Part
The final step will be to close the opening. Do it by using a seam allowance. Now is the time to iron it to give it a clean look. You can use the iron and press it so that there will be a perfect sleep mask.
