One of the best ways will be to clean your trash can regularly from time to time. You will also have to make the trash can dry completely before adding trash. One of the best preventive advice will be to use a lid and secured the trash can. We will now discuss how to kill maggots in trash cans.

Insecticide

You will easily find insecticides available in the market. An insecticide has borax that can kill the eggs as well as the maggots. Alternatively, you can use bug sprays or use a dog shampoo that includes permethrin. You can even go for a household hold cleaner. For this, you need to add boiling water with the cleaning solution and pour it over the maggots. In many cases, people also use toilet cleaners to kill the maggots.

Bleach and Mothballs

In case your trash can is very large, you can go for spray bleach. This is very effective and kills by suffocating the maggots. Spray bleach can even help to prevent future infestations. Some people also use mothballs for killing the insect. However, keep in mind that mothballs are highly carcinogenic.

Boiling Water

Chemical works great, but many people don’t consider using them. For this, you can use natural methods like pouring boiling water inside the trash can. Maggots will not be able to survive the high temperature of the boiling water. However, keep in mind that the trash can must be off of high-quality plastic that can tolerate extremely high boiling water.

Home Remedies

many common house items can kill the maggots. The first way will be by using cinnamon powder and water. Mix the powder with water and leave the solution for almost six hours. Vinegar also works great, and you need to add it to hot water. Using vinegar also helps to disinfect the trash can. Another way to kill maggots will be by using salt. Make a mixture of salt and lemon and sprinkle it over the maggots and the areas where they breed. This will make the insect dry and kill them quickly.
