An Ultimate Guide: How to Check Graphic Cards

Your computer’s graphics hardware handles everything from decoding videos and drawing on a computer to displaying difficult PC games. Several modern PCs make use of GPUs developed by NVIDIA, intel or AMD.

Regardless of your computer’s RAM and GPU being important, the GPU is a critical component of gaming. It’s more difficult to try out brand-new PC games when the GPU is insufficiently powerful. For you to play those games, you have to use low-level graphical settings only.

Some computers use integrated graphics, while others use the discrete cards. You can find out what graphics card your Windows computer is using by using the methods listed below.

How to Check Graphic Cards

Windows 10

Windows 10 is the latest operating system from Microsoft.

Users of Windows 10 can access the toolbar to obtain information about their GPU and the usage statistics. To accomplish this, right click task manager from the taskbar. You can also press the Windows+Esc key combination to open it.

When you click, a performance tab will appear at the upper right corner of your Windows 10 screen. If not, click more info then select “GPU 0” from the sidebar. The model number and manufacturer of your GPU is indicated at the top right corner of your Windows. You will also find more information about the memory on your GPU card displayed. You can find the information about GPU usage in the Windows 10 Task Manager. You will be able to view your GPU usage here through an application.

In the case of more than one GPU, you will see their indication. Each represents a physically placed but separate GPU.

Earlier Windows Versions

In most older versions, such as Windows 7, the DirectX Diagnostic Tool will display the information. Press Windows Plus (+) R to launch the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. A dialog box will appear. In there, type “dxdiag” and press “enter.”

The name field will be in the device section. Click “Display” tab to access the information, including the statistics of video memory in your GPU.

For multiple GPUs in the system, like laptops with low-power Intel GPU that operates with a battery and a high-power NVIDIA GPU that runs when it’s plugged in for gaming, you need to control the GPU a game uses through the Windows app settings. You will find these controls built into the NVIDIA Control Panel.

The model number and the manufacturer

Speccy, a third-party app, can be used to search on your model graphic card. You can start it by downloading the free version. Select the graphics option from the sidebar. Scroll down to look for the sub-vendor entry. You will discover the identity of the card’s actual manufacturer.

If you need to know the exact model number you will require for a warranty, you will need to open your PC cup or search your email for the receipt. The graphics card are found here. On the side, you’ll find a sticker with the necessary information.

You may need to write down the information to avoid the hassle of checking your graphics card.
