Why Is Wood The Best Material?

Wood is undoubtedly the best material for a cutting board. It offers many benefits and does not make the knife blunt. With it, you don't have to worry about any damage to the knives, and it also comes with easy maintenance. Wood cutting boards have self-healing properties and come with a smooth surface. It is also naturally strong, and you don't have to worry about wear. Lastly, it also offers you a traditional feel. You can use it for a long time, and it can be great for different purposes.

Wood vs Bamboo

Bamboo is highly renewable and makes a perfect cheeseboard. However, you will have to know that bamboo is hardy grass and is not wood. It is less porous when compared to hardwood and is resistant to scarring. The other advantage of bamboo is that it does not absorb liquid making it repel microorganisms. Bamboo definitely serves as your second choice of material for a cutting board

Wood vs Glass

Glass and marble have an attractive look. However, never get tempted with the looks. Even though it may blend with your kitchen decor, it comes with many downsides. Firstly, glass and marble are unsuitable to be cutting boards. It can make your knife dull with every cut. Additionally, it provides an irritating clanking sound. Glass also has a slippery surface that can be dangerous while handling a knife. Both marble and glass are heavy, and lifting them can be an efforting task. The material is also prone to breakage and chipping, and an accidental drop can break it into pieces. The best thing that you can do with a glass board is for rolling dough.

Wood vs Plastic

Plastic cutting boards are either PVA (polyvinyl acetate) or HDPE (high-density polyethylene). They are both tough materials and come in a lightweight design. With plastic, you can have many options as it lets you choose from multiple colors. You can even sanitize it, and it can dry quickly. Plastic also comes at an affordable value. However, the material is very prone to staining and smell. Similarly, it is also tough to clean and can attract microorganisms. Plastic cutting boards have light and thin construction that can lead to an unstable work surface.

Wood vs Rubber

Rubber cutting boards are becoming increasingly popular. It comes in a durable design and offers gentle performance. Just like wood, it comes with self-healing properties. Rubber boards also have low maintenance, and you can even clean them in a dishwasher. If we have to discuss its drawbacks, then rubber can melt. You cannot use a rubber cutting board as a serving platter.

Therefore, you can clearly see that wood cutting board material scores well over all other materials.
